Sabrina Thompson, also known as Sabjuda, is a filmmaker, entrepreneur, artist, and photojournalist with roots in North Carolina and Brooklyn. For over a decade, she has directed, produced, and edited high-profile projects for prestigious clients such as Warner Media Discovery, The Recording Academy, Google, AT&T, ROC NATION sports, and more. She has been in residencies in France, Austin, and NYC for her artwork and writing. Sabjuda founded The Ridiculous Ones to honor and mourn her late grandmother Olivia Gibson, fondly known as O.G., whom she styled and photographed from 2015 until her passing in 2021.

Olivia Gibson, also known as O.G., was my grandmother who amplified her voice later in life. She was a mother of seven, grandmother of twelve, church-goer, school janitor, proud North Carolinian, gardener, homemaker, and wife; however, she did not start living out loud until my grandfather died. During our photoshoots, she would talk about juggling multiple boyfriends as a teenager, running from the KKK while pregnant, and physically confronting people who threatened her family despite her petite 4’9 stature. She was my muse and I savored her ridiculously outrageous stories and infectious laughter until she passed at the age of 96.

After she transitioned, I found myself gifting photoshoots to my friend’s parents hoping to feel my grandma’s presence. It was how I processed grief. I decided to turn these shoots into a coffee table book and documentary so others can be inspired by incredible elders to live a ridiculously bold, intentional, and vivid life.
